About

CleanTrek is a grassroots company run by me, John McShane! I'm a 29-year-old mechanical engineer and hiker who recognized a gap between my desire to pick up litter and my willingness to so, inspiring me to make litter cleanup tools that help hikers bridge this gap. My mission is to empower more hikers to take action so we can work together to keep our trails and nature free of litter. I've been working towards this goal since I got the idea in 2021, and I'm excited to finally be sharing these tools with the world!

YouTuber and hiking enthusiast Cris Hazzard (a.k.a. Hiking Guy) interviewed me in the spring of 2025 and perfectly captured the essence of what CleanTrek is all about. I could dump a whole page of my thoughts, but it's better if you just watch the video below!
